First off, email newsletters are so prevalent in our inboxes we need to find a way to cut through the chatter when we want someone out there to actually open our newsletter. Everybody is writing and sending them, including those Internet marketers.

The first thing in all this to remember is that content is king. Now, this may sound like a trite term, but you have a very limited timeframe in which to capture a customer's attention and then get him or her to read the newsletter and respond to it in some fashion. Make the title interesting enough that your customers will want to open the email, to start.

If possible, have the newsletter placed into the body of the email. There are plenty of email programs and list mailing providers who can do this easily. So make sure to focus on the content and the other technical items can be worked out easily enough. Provide information that's interesting and something the recipient will want to read.

Examples can include offering tips or advice on whatever the service or merchandise it is that's being offered. You might start this item with a "How to," for instance. Also, make the newsletter fun in a way that relates to not only your business but also to other things that you think your customer base may be interested in reading. There could be a cartoon, perhaps, or a completely unrelated article about the upcoming summer season and the best beaches to travel to.

Once good content is inserted, focus on getting these emails on a consistent basis to your customer base. Make it a priority to provide them at least once a month. In this matter, always use a hosted emailing service or autoresponder. They can handle all aspects of list management, including subscribers, people who unsubscribe, making sure they (subscribers) white-list (allow) the emails into their inboxes and ensuring the emails are CAN-SPAM compliant.

These services can be had for less than 20 dollars a month, in many cases. In the end, make good-looking email newsletters with lots of interesting content. Next, grow your subscriber base through consistent attention paid to getting those emails into the right customer hands. Reply to them when they send you emails, and always treat them like royalty.
